It might just be me, but his face also looks a little flat.
Torchic and Charmeleon look awesome though. Charmeleon's scarlet really stands out against Growlithe's brownish red-orange and Torchic's firey orange. The bird is almost phoenix-like because it matches the flames!
The fire itself looks kind of like lightning, but you can still see the difference.
