1) „What do you use to color?"
I used to color my pokémon and digimon art with colored pencils, but that was years ago. My hetalia comics are done with copic markers. But sometimes I still color small details like wounds with colored pencils. I change my choice of paper every other month or so because I'm never satisfied (help ?).
2) « Where do you get your ideas for comics ? »
I'm a university student so I'm forced to read lots of books. But even more useful are newspapers. I try to read the ones from Switzerland, Britain, Germany, Austria, Israel, Czechia and sometimes America and France (mostly the crappy boulevard newspapers because they're sillier).
About my use of hetalia characters
My Israel is based on this ([link]) as well as his description in fanfiction I've read. And every time I see an Israeli on television, he looks like this (sunglasses, uniform, weapon, dark hair and tanned skin).
Czechia is based on one of the official hetalia sketches of her ([link]). She's usually wearing modern-day clothes in my art though.
Bavaria is my own. He has an official design already but when I created him, there was only one tiny official sketch of him.
The countries from former Yugoslavia were created by Tixiv ([link]). I've only used Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia so far.
The Latin American characters belong to
OC Character description (because I've never really given one)
Bavaria
Bavaria's a wealthy, stubborn, independent, conservative, somewhat self-centered Catholic with a relaxed, easy-going nature and a great love for life's simpler pleasures (beer, food, football, pretty women). Next to France, he's probably the oldest European nation. He's incredibly proud of his own history, tradition, art, culture and language/dialect. But thanks to his self-confidence, he doesn't feel like he has to prove anything to the rest of Germany (and the world). He's good at football even by German standards.
Bavaria does NOT like Prussia and he's still somewhat uneasy around Czechia. Nowadays he no longer yearns to be an independent nation and actually enjoys being part of Germany. Not that he would ever tell Ludwig so.
Czechia
A proud atheist, Czechia is passionate about beer and loves ice hockey, cottages and mushroom picking. Her other hobbies include complaining, reading and hanging out with Slovakia, whom she's very close to (most nations automatically assume they're a couple when they see them together). She's not an overtly emotional person and quite formal and reserved with strangers. Cunning and intelligent, Czechia never liked open confrontation much and resorted to passive-aggressive tactics in order to survive Austrian, German and Soviet rule over her lands.
She's level-headed, critical and not easily being deceived or excited by big ideas, dreams, ideals or emotions (some might call her a cynic and maybe a bit of an opportunist). It takes a long time to get close to her but if you manage you get a friend for life. Czechia's unique sense of humour is dark and witty and she's very proud of it. Do NOT question her sense of humour.
Most nations don't know that she's got a real talent for music (Austria does, but would never tell her so since he spent most of his life looking down on her).
Israel
Israel is loud, direct, pushy, blunt, arrogant, proud and rude, but also brave, smart, sincere, genuine, hard-working and exceedingly protective, loyal and dedicated to family and friends. He's very proud of his military strength (with good reason) and spent a lot of time in the army. This shows in his manners and behaviour. Despite his image, Israel's not a physically violent person – he usually wins his arguments by yelling louder and especially longer than his opponent. Maybe because of this, many nations find him difficult to get along with.
Israel's convinced that most nations dislike him, with some justification. He trusts America as far as he can ever trust anyone (which isn't that far). The oath „Never again!" is more than an empty slogan to him. It still controls his way of thinking and feeling. Once you managed to convince Israel that you do not hate him, he's actually very hospitable and fun-loving. He enjoys dancing and singing but he's not particularly good at it. Israel is not overtly religious in a personal sense but he's very proud of his Jewish traditions and identity.
And here's my old fanart collection, in case people are looking for a specific pairing or character and don't feel like spending ages looking through all of my gallery:
